ACL / Knee Ligament Injuries

Injuries to the ACL or other knee ligaments are serious, but with the right rehabilitation program, recovery is absolutely achievable. At Orlando Sports Medicine, we provide both pre-operative and post-operative care based on the most current evidence in sports rehabilitation.

Our ACL rehab programs begin with managing swelling, performing range of motion exercises, and establishing muscular control across the knee.  We may use EMG biofeedback, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and isometric strengthening to achieve this goal.  As healing progresses, we implement progressive resistance training, neuromuscular re-education, functional exercise and movement retraining during the intermediate phase of recovery.  In more advanced stages of recovery, return to running, hop and jump retraining, and agility drills are introduced. Return-to-play testing and isokinetic strength assessments help ensure readiness to safely return to sport and reduce the risk of re-injury.
